Renovation of CASA's new home initiated with signing of local architectural and design company

Jul. 21—CASA for Hunt County is taking a big step in its move to a bigger and brighter future helping some of Hunt County's most vulnerable citizens — minors who through no fault of their own find themselves in the foster care system.

CASA has contracted with Design79 — a local architectural consulting and design services company owned by Greenville resident Cody Wacasey — to conduct the initial phases of their new building's renovation.

In late April, CASA purchased a building at 2701 Washington St. in downtown Greenville to serve as their new office. The building will support the organization's Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers in their boots-on-the-ground work for children in crisis.

The building needs total renovation and Wacasey's company will be the lead for all the initial work — including pre-design services, schematic design and design development.

"We get a lot of enjoyment out of partnering with organizations that are out there making a difference day in and day out," Wacasey said. "We (Design79) love Greenville. I grew up in Greenville and it's great to have ongoing opportunities to support the ever-present efforts to restore, beautify and rejuvenate this awesome downtown"

CASA for Hunt County is appointed to serve 100% of the children who have been removed from their home due to abuse and are placed into the overwhelmed foster care system. The organization's volunteers provide a consistent presence in a child's life while working collaboratively with everyone involved in the case. The highly trained CASA volunteer is someone from the child's county whose responsibility is to get to know the child and their family and advocate for the child's safety, permanency and well-being while in foster care.

"CASA is truly a significant organization in service to children and their families when they become involved in the child welfare system," said Lori Cope, CASA for Hunt County executive director. "This new building will be a permanent home for our organization and our volunteers who are working to achieve permanent homes for the children."

A "Renovation Required" fundraising campaign is underway — encouraging people to help a child served by CASA by lifting up the renovation of the building. Any meaningful amount of donated goods, services or funds to the campaign will be honored in a prominent, permanent place at the new building. Details of the fundraising campaign are on the CASA for Hunt County website.
