Retired KCPD officer attacked downtown thankful to be alive

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A retired Kansas City police officer, who now works security, says he is thankful to be alive.

The sergeant survived a brutal attack at Cosentino’s grocery store in downtown Kansas City on June 30th, and he reached out to FOX4 to do his first interview since the attack.

“The suspect had been involved in several incidents in the store. So I was merely asking him to leave to protect the customers and staff,” the retired sergeant said.

The officer is recovering after surgery and 200 stitches in his head. Watch his full interview with Kathy Quinn in the video player.
