River Floods in Kerrville, Texas, for First Time in Almost 6 Years

The Guadalupe River in Kerrville, Texas, reached flood stage for the first time in almost six years on Tuesday, July 23, after heavy rain caused flash floods in south-central Texas, according to officials.

“This is the first time since October 2018 that this river site has been above bankfull stage,” the National Weather Service said. “This water should flow southeast towards Canyon Lake over the next several days,” they added.

Footage posted by Kerrville officials shows floodwaters submerging Louise Hays Park as the swollen Guadalupe River flowed over a weir inside the park.

The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office said the area had seen rainfall rates of “2 to 4 inches per hour” Tuesday morning.

“Almost every low water crossing in Kerr County is extremely hazardous right now,” the sheriff’s office warned. “Turn around, don’t drown,” they advised. Credit: City of Kerrville, TX via Storyful
