Road closures and evacuations begin to lift after Fresno June Lightning Complex Fire containment

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) — Some road closures and evacuation orders are starting to lift as the Fresno June Lightning Complex increases containment.

Firefighters were able to lift the 180 and Cove Road closure.

Cal Fire Captain, Brent Pascua says yesterday’s cooler temperatures and drone technology made putting out the flames easier.

“They can see those hidden hotspots, and they really helped the crews to get in there and put the fire out,” Captain Pascua said.

Captain Pascua says firefighters are working diligently on lifting the evacuation order soon.

“Besides putting out the fire that remains our highest priority is getting people home,” Captain Pascua said.

However, he says crews want to make sure the area is safe before letting people in.

“Once we do, they gotta remember to drive carefully in the area cause they’re still will be fire crews in and around those areas,” Captain Pascua said.

The Fresno County Board of Supervisors is calling for California Disaster Act Reimbursement.

“That’s very helpful to law-enforcement fire, and other departments,” Terri Mejorado, Emergency Manager said.

Meanwhile, crews from other counties remain on standby to lend a helping hand.

Although containment has gone up, the job is not done.

“To put out the hotspots that remain in the fire, continue to strengthen those fire lines that are already put in and then also working in around the homes to make sure that people can come home safely to their houses,” Captain Pascua said.
