Rochester man sentenced after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography

Aug. 12—ROCHESTER — A Rochester man, who was arrested in a child pornography investigation in 2023 , was sentenced in Olmsted County District Court on Aug. 7, 2024.

Darith Chan Hin, 30, was charged with a felony count of possession of child pornography. Hin entered a guilty plea for the charge in May.

District Judge Lisa Hayne sentenced him to 10 years of supervised probation and 50 hours of community service. As part of his probation conditions, he must register as a predatory offender and has no access to the internet unless it's approved.

According to the criminal complaint, the Rochester Police Department received an ICAC cybertip relating to 11 videos of suspected child sexual abuse material. The videos were saved to Verizon between March and May 2023.

A search warrant for Hin's residence, vehicle and person was granted and executed. According to the complaint, Hin told police if there was CSAM on his phone, it was by accident.
