Man found dead outside In-N-Out ID'd

Authorities identified a man found dead outside the In-N-Out in Newbury Park Saturday morning.

Michael Sofley, 63, of Thousand Oaks, was discovered in the fast-food restaurant's drive-thru entrance, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner's and the Ventura County Sheriff's offices, which investigated the death. The cause and manner of Sofley's death are pending, the medical examiner's office said.

The discovery of his body prompted an investigation by major crimes detectives however they quickly learned from surveillance video that Sofley had been walking through the parking lot around 5:50 a.m. when he collapsed suddenly.

The incident was cleared before the restaurant's regularly scheduled opening at 10:30 a.m.

2 arrested in connection to March pharmacy burglaries

Two Los Angeles County men were arrested last week in connection with a series of burglaries at pharmacies in Camarillo, Thousand Oaks and Ventura, authorities said.

The pair allegedly carjacked a Dodge Charger and used it in their crime spree in Ventura and Los Angeles counties, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. In Ventura County, the men are accused of striking three pharmacies March 14, and the Charger was seen in video leaving the areas.

Investigators later identified the men as a 19-year-old from South Gate who was arrested July 22 and a 22-year-old from Los Angeles who was arrested July 23.

The South Gate man was booked into Ventura County Main Jail and his bail is currently set at $10,000, jail records show. He has been charged with three counts of felony commercial burglary. Authorities said they also found an unregistered gun at his home that is believed to have been used in the burglaries. The man faces additional federal firearms charges, sheriff's officials said.

The South Gate man pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment in Ventura County Superior Court July 24, court records show. He is scheduled to return to court Friday for an early disposition conference.

The Los Angeles man was booked into federal jail and is expected to be booked into Ventura County Jail in the future, the sheriff's office said.

Local authorities worked on the case with federal law enforcement agencies and several in Los Angeles County.

Ventura police arrest man for gun, drug offenses

Ventura police arrested a 51-year-old man from the Santa Clara River bottom for a host of drug and gun offenses.

Officers patroling the area July 17 around 8:30 a.m. discovered an occupied vehicle and saw drug paraphernalia inside, according to the Ventura Police Department. The person inside had already been told about trespassing, police said.

Officers discovered a loaded .380 handgun, 200 rounds of ammunition and a loaded magazine, according to reports and Cmdr. Ryan Weeks. Police also said they confiscated cash and baggies of a powdery substance believed to be fentanyl, methampetamine, psilocybin mushrooms and acid.

The man was arrested on suspicion of multiple felony gun and drug offenses, including being a felon in possesion of a gun, felon in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded gun that is unregistered, carrying a concealed weapon, possesion of a gun with drugs and two counts of possession of drugs for sale. He is also facing a charge of felony being out on bail for a felony.

The man was arraigned July 19 and has pleaded not guilty on all charges and also denied additional special enhancements, court records show. He is scheduled to return to Ventura County Superior Court Thursday for an early disposition conference and Wednesday for a preliminary examination, according to court records.
