UPDATE: Three people dead in Coles Co. crash on Route 130

CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The crash that closed Route 130 in Coles County on Sunday resulted in three deaths, the Illinois State Police confirmed.
Officials said three vehicles were involved in the crash: a Dodge Charger, a Ford F-150 and a GMC Envoy. The investigation revealed the Charger was driving south on Route 130 when it tried to pass a line of traffic; the F-150 and the Envoy were driving northbound and were hit by the Charger.

Three people inside the Charger — the driver and two passengers — were killed in the crash, State Police said. The driver of the Envoy suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a regional hospital. The driver of the F-150 was not hurt.
Route 130 was shut down for almost seven hours as emergency personnel responded and as State Police investigated. The road reopened to traffic just before midnight.
WCIA has reached out to the Coles County Coroner for further information. We have not heard back yet.
CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Charleston Fire Department said Route 130 is closed between Westfield Road and County Road 300N due to a traffic accident.
The Coles County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the accident involved three vehicles. They expect the closure to last several hours and ask drivers to avoid the area.
Charleston Fire said Westfield Road will remain open. They also said the investigation will be handed off to Illinois State Police.
