Ryan Garcia expelled by World Boxing Council after racist social media rant

Famed boxer Ryan Garcia has been expelled from the World Boxing Council after a racist rant Thursday on X (formerly Twitter).

There were multiple viral clips circulating on X after Garcia, 25, ranted on X Spaces. One clip included discriminatory comments about Muslims. Another showed Garcia using racial slurs, saying he is "anti-black" and saying that he is "KKK."

He also made derogatory comments about George Floyd, the Minneapolis man who in 2020 was killed by white police officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes.

The World Boxing Council's statement on Thursday with their decision to expel Garcia was released on X:

On April 20, Garcia defeated Devin Haney by a majority decision at Barclays Center to advance to 25-1 (20 KO) on his career. Haney was the clear favorite and entered the bout 31-0 (15 KO), but Garcia handed him the first three knockdowns of his career. Since, however, test results revealed that Garcia tested positive for a banned substance before the fight.

As a result, Garcia's win has been changed to a "no contest." In addition, Garcia was suspended for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission retroactive to the date of the fight.

Six days after Garcia's fight against Haney, Garcia was seen shadowboxing for former President Donald Trump at Trump's Mar-A-Lago residence. He also showed his support for Trump in this year's presidential election on X, posting ''Trump is cool'' with a video clip of him shadowboxing for Trump.

In June, Garcia was arrested on a charge of felony vandalism. He was arrested at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Beverly Hills, where a representative at the hotel said he did more than $15,000 in estimated damage to a hallway and guest room at the hotel, per the Beverly Hills Police Department.
