Sacramento bowling alley badly damaged by fire last month permanently closes its doors

A bowling alley near Sacramento’s Land Park neighborhood is permanently closing its doors after a fire last month caused extensive damage to the building.

AMF Land Park Lanes, at 5850 Freeport Blvd. near the border of Sacramento’s South Land Park and Freeport Manor neighborhoods, announced its permanent closure on its website.

“We’re sorry to say that your favorite bowling location; AMF Land Park Lanes has permanently closed,” according to the post on the bowling alley’s website. “We have deeply appreciated your patronage and support over the years.”

The fire started on a couch on the exterior of the building in the afternoon of Feb. 11, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.

Flames from the couch fire quickly spread into the attic of the bowling alley, fire officials said. People inside the bowling alley were able to exit the burning building without injuries.

The company that owns AMF Land Park Lanes directed its longtime customers to another of its Sacramento bowling alleys, Bowlero North Sacramento at 4800 Madison Ave.

“We’ve made great bowling memories together, but this is not the end of our story together,” the message posted on the AMF Land Park Lanes website said. “We would like to continue to see you at Bowlero North Sacramento!”

Bowlero North Sacramento offers bowling in a space suited for both league play and special events with lanes available all season long, the company said.
