Sacramento police detain armed suspect who barricaded himself in big rig, ending standoff

Sacramento police detained a suspect Saturday after a standoff that occurred when he barricaded himself in a big rig in the River District, armed with a metal pole.

The suspect was also wanted for a burglary of a nearby business, Sacramento Police Department spokesperson Officer Anthony Gamble said.

Police shut down the 500 block of Richards Boulevard between Sequoia Pacific Boulevard and North 7th Street while officers worked to end the standoff earlier Saturday afternoon. The suspect had, at first, refused to get out of the truck as non-lethal rounds were fired on him, Gamble said. The man eventually surrendered and was arrested.

No other information was provided about the standoff or when it began.
