San Angelo man dies after golf cart incident, woman charged
A San Angelo woman has been arrested for a charge of intoxication assault on a golf cart after an incident resulted in a man's death, according to a news release from police.
Emilee Jordan Krieger was free Friday from the Tom Green County Jail on a $2,500 bond, according to jail records.
Around 6:16 p.m. June 29, officers from the San Angelo Police Department responded to an unconscious person in the 5500 block of Enclave Court.
Upon arrival, officers found that a golf cart operated by Krieger, 28, caused a serious accident resulting in injuries to the passenger, Dustin Patino, 41, according to allegations in the media release.
Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
"Preliminary investigations suggest that Krieger was operating the golf cart under the influence of alcohol," the release stated. "San Angelo Fire Department personnel responded quickly and transported Patino to Shannon Medical Center, where, despite all efforts, Patino later succumbed to his injuries on July 2."
Krieger later consented to a breathalyzer test confirming a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit, according to allegations in the media release. She was arrested and charged with intoxication assault and released the next day on June 30.
"The San Angelo Police Department emphasizes the dangers of operating any vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs," the release stated. "We urge all citizens to exercise caution and make responsible decisions to prevent such incidents."
The San Angelo Police Department reminded all citizens that through Monday, a "no refusal" period is in effect for increased enforcement regarding DWI’s.
According to the city of San Angelo code of ordinances, it its unlawful to operate a golf cart on any part of the traffic area of any public street or highway within the city limits where the posted speed limit is more than 30 miles per hour.
It is also unlawful on or upon any sidewalk, pedestrian walkway, jogging path, park trail or any location normally used for pedestrian traffic.
