San Joaquin County launches new resource for tech education, job openings, training, more

Information about technical education, training, jobs and more is available in one place at Go San Joaquin, a website launched by San Joaquin County Office of Education and others last week.

The site aims to connect county residents to educational programs, and eventually to local careers, according to the office of education. It offers resources for high school students, adult learners, employers and small businesses, as well as information about the county's biggest industries, including agriculture, healthcare and transportation.

“(Go San Joaquin) fills an important need for individuals seeking programming and services in our county but might not know where to start looking,” Janine Kaeslin, Deputy Superintendent of Student Programs and Services said in a statement.

The tool is just the latest of numerous local government efforts to develop the area’s workforce.

In May, San Joaquin County Office of Education graduated its latest class of the Comeback Kids program, which helps those 18 and up finish high school through free online learning.

Last year, county supervisors put $5.2 million toward a workforce development program aimed at increasing the number of behavioral health professionals in the county. Like counties across the state, San Joaquin County is facing a shortage in behavioral health workers.

In 2022, the Stockton City Council gave $2.5 million of a state youth workforce grant to four local organizations to provide job placements, The Record reported.

In addition to resources, Go San Joaquin links residents to job opening information through EdJoin, San Joaquin County’s hiring page and CalJobs, a state-run site aimed at connecting job seekers and employers.

Ultimately, Go San Joaquin’s creators hope it will draw new businesses to the county in addition to supporting residents.

“This platform not only showcases the unique advantages our county offers, but also provides employers with the essential resources and information they need to invest and grow here,” Bob Gutierrez, CEO of the San Joaquin Partnership, said in a statement.

"We are confident that (Go San Joaquin) will be a powerful tool in driving economic growth and creating new opportunities for our community.”

Organizations including San Joaquin Adult Education Consortium, San Joaquin Delta College, San Joaquin Partnership and WorkNet helped create the site, according to San Joaquin County Office of Education.
