Santa Fe police seek help finding carjacking suspect

Jul. 24—Santa Fe police have asked for help from the public in finding Katrina Quintana, a Rio Rancho woman accused of trying to steal a car, striking several vehicles with it and threatening another woman with a knife Sunday in the downtown area.

Quintana, 28, who fled the scene, faces charges of attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless driving and larceny, among others, according to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday in Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.

Police wrote in an arrest warrant affidavit Quintana is suspected of stealing a van on Guadalupe Street and later crashing it into several vehicles. The owner of the van told police Quintana forced her from the vehicle with a knife, the affidavit says.

A witness on Paseo de Peralta told police she had blocked the van in a parking spot and saw Quintana wielding a knife as she got out of the van and ran off.

Quintana later dialed 911, reporting to Santa Fe dispatch her purse was missing, police wrote. She told a dispatcher she was at a grocery store in Rio Rancho, the affidavit says, but police did not find her in the area.

Police described Quintana in a news release as 4-foot-11 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds, with dyed red hair and brown eyes.

She is on probation, the release says.
