One of the suspects, Ericque Street, is wanted in relation to the May 18 shooting in Ellis Square. At 11:55 p.m. on May 18, multiple precincts responded to Ellis Square in downtown Savannah, where they discovered multiple people with gunshot wounds. In all, 11 adults were treated for injuries, including six with gunshot wounds.

On June 10, SPD obtained arrest warrants for Street, according to previous reporting by the Savannah Morning News. Street is wanted for four counts of aggravated assault; possession of a firearm during a felony; and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Johnson initially announced his intention to release the most wanted list during his press conference on July 2. That announcement came after several shootings in the area, most recently an officer-involved shooting near the Home Depot on Victory Drive on June 30. The man, Gregory Eugene Griffin, 31, was injured during the shooting and was released on parole in 2022 after serving 8 years and 8 months of a 15-year-prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter, the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles confirmed.

The announcement comes as violent crimes have decreased in the City of Savannah compared to the past two years ― 499 total violent crimes, thus far, in 2024, compared to 628 in 2023 and 709 in 2022, according to SPD's weekly statistics. But, during the same time period, homicides have increased ― 17 in 2024, compared to 6 in 2023, and 17 in 2022.

The Top 10 most wanted list will be updated as suspects are captured and is available on the department's website. SPD is asking citizens to report the suspects if they see them. Citizens can submit tips anonymously on SPD's app.

“Public safety is a community effort,” said Johnson. “And we will do what we can do, we will do what we must do. We need our community to do what they can do and must do, as well.”
