PORT HURON — St. Clair County Community College will now offer free tuition thanks to the state's new school aid budget.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently highlighted the new school aid budget, which allows every high school graduate to earn their associates degree or skills certificate from an in-district community college tuition-free. This budget will save more than 18,000 students up to $4,800 a year.

Students may qualify for several programs to attend SC4 tuition-free, including the most recent program for 2024 high school graduates. The tuition support program, combined with the direct admission to SC4 for high school graduates in St. Clair County, will provide students an efficient path to receive college credit.

SC4 President Kirk Kramer said the college appreciates initiatives that reduces barriers to achieving post-secondary education.

"Each person deserves a chance to succeed and SC4 anticipates this most recent program will open doors for students that may not have been available through other programs," he said. "Closing gaps in funding for students helps both individuals and the community."

SC4 assists its students with receiving tuition benefits, including the tuition free attendance at the college. The SC4 Financial Aid Office will help students in exploring their options and evaluating qualifications for tuition programs.

SC4 participates in many tuition support programs such as Reconnect, Pell, Tuition Incentive Program, Michigan Achievement Scholarship and more. People should contact the SC4 Financial Aid Office at financialaid@sc4.edu for details.
