Who is Sean Higgins? Latest on driver in Gaudreau crash

Sean Higgins, the suspected drunken driver who struck and killed hockey players and brothers Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, is now facing two counts of death by auto in relation to the accident that occurred Aug. 29 in Oldmans Township.

Who is Sean Higgins?

Sean Higgins, 43, lives in Woodstown and worked at a local rehab, according to his employer.

Gaudenzia — a drug addiction treatment center in the Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland areas — posted to Facebook on Aug. 31 that Sean M. Higgins was an employee for the facility. Higgins was placed on leave immediately after the incident.

It was not clear whether or not the leave was paid, and comments on the post were limited.

According to published reports, Sean Higgins had at least two prior charges in North Carolina that were ultimately dismissed.

The published report indicates Higgins was charged with a DUI in 2005, but escaped conviction because the arresting officer didn't show up.

The report also reflects that Higgins received a speeding ticket in 2001 that was dismissed due to Higgins' relatively clean driving history at the time.

A separate published report noted that Higgins held a position with the New Jersey Army National Guard.

Higgins was not on duty at the time of the accident.

Higgins served as a field artillery officer attached to the New Jersey Army National Guard and was on drill status.
