Second suspect arrested for deadly 2021 Halloween party shooting in SE ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A second suspect is now in custody in connection to a deadly Halloween party shooting three years ago in southeast Albuquerque.

Albuquerque Police Department said gunfire erupted outside a Halloween party near I-25 and Sunport Boulevard in 2021, leaving one man, Lorenzo Romero, dead and two others seriously injured.

Videos from that night shows guns being waived around inside the party and also gunfire coming from a dark gray Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Last month, the alleged driver of that vehicle, Ray Torres, turned himself in. On Friday, the second suspect, now identified as Alexavier Gutierrez, was arrested.

Police said Gutierrez admits to firing several rounds using Torres’ gun, adding that he thought a group of people outside the car were pointing their guns at them.

The State is asking that Gutierrez be held behind bars while awaiting trial. A date for that hearing has not yet been set.
