A section of I-84 will close overnight next week west of Boise. Here’s what to expect

Driving between the Garrity Boulevard and Ten Mile Road interchanges on Interstate 84 will get a bit complicated next week, the Idaho Transportation Department warned in a news release.

Workers are “stripping framework and installing overhead sign foundations” at the future Idaho Highway 16 interchange.

“The Idaho Transportation Department advises motorists to plan for nighttime Interstate 84 eastbound and westbound closures on Monday and Tuesday,” the department said in a release. “One direction of I-84 will be closed each night during this work.”

On Monday, July 8, westbound I-84 will be closed between Ten Mile and Garrity from 10 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday. Traffic will exit at Ten Mile and detour down Franklin Road.

Portions of Interstate 84 will be closed early next week. Drivers can use the detour indicated in the map for when westbound I-84 is closed.

On Tuesday evening, eastbound I-84 will be closed between the two interchanges from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday. Drivers will get off at Garrity and once again be detoured down Franklin. The speed limit will be reduced to 45 miles per hour at night, the department said.

The Idaho Transportation Department began construction a couple of years ago on extending Highway 16 down to the interstate, according to previous reporting. Once the project is completed, the department expects the road will service 60,000 drivers a day, the Statesman previously reported.
