Hurricane Beryl landing on Texas coast has caused several road closures and delays in the Houston area and beyond.

More than 1 million customers have lost power within hours of Beryl's landfall, as CenterPoint Energy in Houston reported. Rising waters swiftly led to street closures throughout Houston and flood warnings were issued for a large portion of the Texas coast.

Texas Department of Insurance urges drivers to be careful when driving in poor weather conditions. Here are some tips from them.

  • Avoid puddles: Driving into puddles or low-lying areas where rainwater collects, such as dips under rail or highway bridges or near streams, can cause vehicles to hydroplane out of control.

  • Drive in the middle lanes: Staying on higher ground is a good safety measure, especially during heavy rains.
