Have you seen this man? Police seek person of interest regarding June 21 Topeka homicide

Topeka police are asking for tips to help them find Nassir Gill, 19, of Topeka, whom they said is a "person of interest" regarding their investigation into the June 21 shooting death of Brian M. Wright Jr.

Police made public a photo of Gill, whom they said stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds.

Gill is shown in the photo as having blue and green in his hair, but those colors may no longer be present, said Rosie Nichols, public safety communications specialist for Topeka's city government.

When and where was Brian M. Wright Jr. killed?

Wright, 23, was among two people Topeka police found suffering from gunshot wounds after they were called just after 2:15 a.m. June 21 to the 3100 block of S.W. Westover Road, said police Capt. Jerry Monasmith. Westover runs northwest from S.W. 17th and Oakley Avenue.

Wright was taken by ambulance to a Topeka hospital, where he died, Monasmith said.

The female gunshot victim survives. Her name and age haven’t been made public.

Topeka police announced early Friday they had arrested Dasanee D. Curry Jr., 18, of Topeka, in connection with Wright's death.

Currsy was booked at 2:05 a.m. Friday into the Shawnee County Jail, where records showed he was being held on a $1 million bond Monday in connection with crimes that included intentional and premeditated first-degree murder.

Curry was also arrested in connection with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated child endangerment, criminal damage to property and the criminal discharge of a weapon at an occupied dwelling, said Lt. Ed Stanley, of the Topeka Police Department. Formal charges against him hadn’t been filed.
