Selma firefighter faces murder charge

SELMA − A Selma firefighter has been charged with murder.

Benjamin Jackie, 27, was arrested Sunday night and charged with murder, Police Chief Kenta Fulford said in a news release. He was placed in jail under a bond of $1.5 million. Fulford confirmed that he is a Selma firefighter.

Police went to the 2100 block of Minter Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Sunday on a report of a person shot, the chief said. They found a man laying on the ground who had “multiple” gunshot wounds, Fulford said.

The victim’s name was not released. Jackie was arrested on the scene.

Phone call and emails Tuesday morning to the Selma Fire Department asking about Jackie’s current employment status were not immediately returned.
