Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate fundraising race between U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Republican David McCormick continues to reach new highs with both candidates each raising more than $8 million, according to the latest campaign finance reports.

McCormick’s campaign announced it raised $8.4 million from April 4 to the end of June, which includes a $2.09 million loan he gave to his campaign. He’s loaned $4.06 million to his campaign so far this cycle.

Casey’s campaign raised $8.04 million according to the latest fundraising report, which appears to be another new high for the incumbent senator. According to Casey’s campaign, nearly 80% of all contributions are under $50.

This haul is a sizable jump for both candidates from the previous quarter when Casey’s campaign raised $5.67 million over the first three months of the year and McCormick raised $5.35 million, and loaned his campaign $970,900 for a total of $6.32 million.

While both campaigns reported raising over $8 million over the last three months, Casey’s campaign significantly outspent McCormick. Between April 4 and the end of June, Casey’s campaign spent $11.5 million, while McCormick’s campaign spent $6.67 million.

Casey’s previous cash on hand advantage has also narrowed over the last three months. The Scranton Democrat entered July with $8.42 million on hand, while McCormick has $8.01 million on hand.

Although Casey and McCormick both ran unopposed in their primary elections, both candidates have been on the airwaves since late March. The second-quarter report was the first fundraising one released since the state’s April 23 primary, when the election confirmed the two would face each other in November.

Control of the U.S. Senate may hinge on this race, expected to be one of the most expensive in the cycle.

Recent polling and national ratings outlets suggest Casey has an advantage in his bid for a fourth term, with the Cook Political Report rating the race as “leans Democratic.”
