OKC woman killed in officer-involved shooting after crash, 7 officers placed on leave

Seven Oklahoma City police officers shot at a woman late Thursday night, and she later died of her injuries at the hospital.

Around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to NW 122 and N MacArthur Blvd in reference to a shooting suspect, where they found a woman who had crashed her vehicle firing her gun, Capt. Valerie Littlejohn told The Oklahoman. Littlejohn said she doesn't yet know if the woman was involved in a single or two-vehicle collision, or if her car simply became disabled.

"We don't know if she was shooting at anyone or if she was shooting in the air," Littlejohn said. "We don't know that, but when the officers had got there, they tried to make contact with her, and she presented a threat to the officers, and we had seven officers discharge their firearms shooting the suspect there at the scene."

Littlejohn said she doesn't know if the woman had shot at the officers, but that information will be determined after an investigation and review of bodycam footage.

None of the seven officers were injured, and no one else was injured at the scene. However, Littlejohn said the woman is believed to have been the suspect in a shooting just prior, which did leave an individual injured.

Once homicide detectives have confirmed identity and notified next-of-kin, the woman's name will be released.

The seven officers have been placed on administrative leave.
