Several injured, 1 dead in southeast valley crash

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A crash involving four vehicles left a 21-year-old Las Vegas man dead and several more injured in the southeast valley, according to law enforcement officials Monday.

The four-vehicle crash occurred near the intersection of South Nellis Boulevard and East Desert Inn Road, where police said several people were injured and taken to an area hospital.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan police, The 21-year-old driver of a Kia K5 was traveling north on Nellis Boulevard in the left travel lane at a high rate of speed. A series of crashes occurred when the driver of a Lexus made the right northbound turn onto Nellis Boulevard attempting to enter the far left lane. That is when the front of the Kia crashed with the the left front of the Lexus, redirecting the Lexus to the east where the Lexus collided with the left side of the Honda. The Kia was redirected to the west, crossing over the raised median and into the opposite travel lanes. The front of the Kia collided with the front of the Ram.

The 21-year-old man who was initially injured in the crash was the driver of a Kia K5, law enforcement officials said, he later died at the hospital.

The driver of the Lexus was self-transported to an urgent care facility for claimed injuries.

The driver of the Honda reported minor injuries and she and her passenger were taken to a nearby hospital.

The driver and the passenger of the Ram were taken to a hospital for claimed injuries.

All involved parties cooperated with the investigation and did not show signs of impairment.

The Kia driver’s death marked the 81st traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for the year 2024.

East Desert Inn Road and South Nellis Boulevard were closed in both directions due to the crash at noon on Monday and reopened shortly before 5:30 p.m.
