Severe thunderstorm warning issued for all of North Jersey. What we know

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for all of North Jersey Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service announced.

Until 8:30 p.m., a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for: Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson and Union counties in New Jersey, according to the NWS New York, as well as over the New York state border.

There is a warning in effect until 8:15 p.m. for: Morris, Sussex, Hunterdon and parts of Warren, Somerset and Middlesex counties, the NWS Mounty Holly stated.

"This storm will contain wind gusts to 70 MPH!" the NWS New York posted on X and warned of penny-sized hail.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for North Jersey and parts of New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania until midnight.

"Regardless of severity, all thunderstorms are dangerous. When it roars, go indoors," the New York City Emergency Management posted on Twitter, formerly X.

Newark Airport delays

All flights to Newark Liberty International Airport are being held at their origin until 9 p.m., according to Flight Aware, which monitors airport delays.

Flight Aware stated that the average delay for inbound Newark flights is 2 hours and 12 minutes and the average departure delays at Newark Airport are up to two hours and increasing "due to weather."

At JFK Airport, inbound flights are being held at their origin until 8:30 p.m. and outbound flights are experiencing an average delays of 30 minutes. At LaGuardia, flights are being held at their origin until 8:45 p.m., Flight Aware states.
