The person of interest in the picture released by SFPD is carrying a paper bag and wearing all black.

The crime happened on the 900 block of Grove Street. It was reported to SFPD at 7:10 a.m. on April 26.

The crime happened in the same area where racist items were left at the home of Black San Francisco dogwalker Terry Williams.

According to San Francisco Supervisor Dean Preston, in that case, the victim received a package addressed to his name containing a Black doll with a noose around its neck, written racist slurs, and a toy grenade. He later received more items containing threats and slurs, telling he and his family to leave the area.

On May 21, Williams’ house on the 900 block of Grove Street went up in flames. Both of his parents were there at the time of the fire and were hospitalized.

“I pray to God this has nothing to do with [the hate crimes,]” Williams said, “I’m praying that no one’s this crazy. If they did do it for those reasons, you are an evil and sick person.”

On May 11, Preston and other community members rallied with Williams’ family to call for action.

SFPD would not confirm that the person of interest is related to the crimes targeting Williams.

SFPD is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person pictured in the images and video. Anyone with information is asked to contact SFPD at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with “SFPD.”
