Sheriff: Boy, 16, walks 6 miles to sleepover house, then fatally stabs boy, 15

WILDWOOD — The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 16-year-old and charged him with stabbing a fellow teen to death and injuring an adult after barging into a home hosting a sleepover Saturday night.

The teen, whose name is withheld because of his age, was charged with premeditated first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and armed burglary. Connor M. Gill, 15, died in the attack. The adult is still hospitalized.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the home in the 6600 block of County Road 148 at 10:11 p.m.

Witnesses said the defendant, who was not invited, banged on the door and rushed in with two knives when the door was opened. A third person was threatened, according to the sheriff’s office. A spokesman said the defendant walked six miles to commit the crime.

A sheriff’s helicopter was called out to help search for the suspect, leading to his arrest. Both stabbing victims were taken by helicopter to area hospitals.

The teens, who were both homeschooled, knew each other, according to the report.
