Sheriff's Office: Man shot in face in road rage incident

STAUNTON — The Augusta County Sheriff's Office said a man was shot in the face Wednesday evening in a road rage incident on Lee Jackson Highway.

Shortly before 8 p.m., deputies responded to the 3500 block of Lee Jackson Highway.

The sheriff's office said the suspect was in a dark-colored truck, possibly a diesel, a press release said. The victim was flown from Riverheads Elementary School to UVA Health in Charlottesville for medical treatment.

His condition was not available Thursday morning.

“This is an ongoing investigation that appears to be an isolated incident," said Sheriff Donald Smith. "There is no current threat to our community."
