Shine your ride: A new car wash is planned for this bustling corridor in Lexington

Drivers in one of Lexington’s busiest commercial corridors will have a new place to help keep their car clean.

Tommy’s Express Car Wash, which has locations nationwide, is planning a location at 2406 Mineral Springs Road, according to town of Lexington planning and zoning documents. That’s just off Sunset Boulevard, about a mile west of Lexington’s Target shopping center.

The town planning documents list the Tommy’s Express project on Mineral Springs Road as “under construction.” The land at the site was being cleared when a reporter drove by on Monday.

Tommy’s Express has car wash locations in states across the U.S., including in Texas, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and elsewhere. A Tommy’s Express location opened at 4700 Devine St. in Columbia in 2022.

The area where the car wash is planned in Lexington is a busy commercial thoroughfare. More than 40,000 cars per day travel down Sunset Boulevard nearby, according to state Department of Transportation statistics, while nearly 11,000 cars per day travel down Mineral Springs Road. A Guthrie’s Fried Chicken restaurant also is in the works nearby, at 2404 Mineral Springs Road.
