Shooting victim drove themselves to hospital after botched drug deal with teen, police say

DADE CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — A drug deal gone wrong resulted in a shooting victim having to drive themselves to a hospital, according to the Dade City Police Department.

On Friday night, officers responded to the intersection of 11th Street and Magnolia Avenue after a call came in about a victim driving himself to Advent Health Dade City after being shot.

The victim told police he had arranged to meet with a 16-year-old at the location for a drug deal.

When the victim arrived, the teen pulled out a handgun and shot him as he drove away, according to officials.

Police said the victim was struck multiple times. He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries but has since been released.

The 16-year-old suspect was later found and arrested at a Zephyrhills home. He was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and was taken to the Pasco County Juvenile Assessment Center.
