MILLINGTON, Ill. — The aftermath of Monday’s severe weather and tornadoes is still impacting parts of Illinois and the Chicago area.

On Thursday, officials announced that a portion of the Fox River is closed for safety reasons.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources closed the river from the Stratton Lock and Dam, south to the Bridge Street bridge in Millington.

According to a notice from the DNR, high water levels, swift current, floating debris and submerged structures created “significantly hazardous” conditions for both boaters and rescue crew that may be called to help with mishaps. The closure is in place until further notice.
