Smoke from California wildfires drifts over southern states
Air quality for Anthony was was listed as "moderate" by AirNow, New Mexico's Air Quality Index tracker. It warned those who were sensitive to particle pollution to avoid outside activities.
In Las Cruces air quality remained "good," with no detectable smoke plume, though earlier this week plumes of smoke from wildfires burning in California moved through portions of the state. Smoke also drifted over Texas, Utah and Oklahoma from southern California.
'Just a haziness aloft'
The National Weather Service El Paso station noted that smoke from wildfires in the Pacific northwest would drift over southern states, including New Mexico.
The Bridge Fire has burned 50,000 acres in the San Gabriel Mountains north of Las Angeles and San Bernardino and is just 3% contained. The Line Fire is just 21% contained, while the Airport Fire burning in the Santa Ana Mountains is 8% contained.
