Smoky sunshine with near-record heat for the weekend

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Wednesday, Utah! It’s been another sunny, smoky, and warm afternoon around the Beehive State.

It looks like even warmer weather is set to arrive for the rest of the week into the weekend.

Hazy sunshine Wednesday with high heat looming in Utah

High pressure will quickly build into Thursday, raising temperatures five to 10 degrees above normal from Thursday through the weekend.

The high heat will bring triple digits back to Northern Utah and crank highs in Southern Utah above average. High pressure will center up over Utah bringing peak heating on Saturday — we’re talking near-record highs, before the ridge slides east and opens the door for monsoon moisture to filter back into the state.

Initially, very dry air will dominate, but moisture will slowly increase in southern Utah, leading to isolated afternoon and evening storms, especially in the higher elevations.
