School closings today due to lake effect snow

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Several schools are slated for a snow day Thursday.

As of Thursday morning, seven school districts in Wyoming and Genesee counties announced closures. Those schools include Batavia City Schools, Byron-Bergen Central School District, GVEP-BOCES, Oakfield-Alabama Central School District, Pavilion Central School District, Warsaw Central School District and Wyoming Central School District.

While measure snow in feet is not uncommon immediately downwind of Lake Erie, it's not every day you see that band make it all the way into the Finger Lakes. Advisory-level snow could affect parts of Livingston & Ontario counties, all stemming from Lake Erie. pic.twitter.com/1BAzQVVEmA

In motion to dismiss, chatbot platform Character AI claims it is protected by the First Amendment
Character AI, a platform that lets users engage in roleplay with AI chatbots, has filed a motion to dismiss a case brought against it by the parent of a teen who committed suicide, allegedly after becoming hooked on the company's technology. In October, Megan Garcia filed a lawsuit against Character AI in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division, over the death of her son, Sewell Setzer III. According to Garcia, her 14-year-old son developed an emotional attachment to a chatbot on Character AI, "Dany," which he texted constantly — to the point where he began to pull away from the real world. Following Setzer's death, Character AI said it would roll out a number of new safety features, including improved detection, response, and intervention related to chats that violate its terms of service.

UnitedHealth confirms 190 million Americans affected by Change Healthcare data breach
UnitedHealth has confirmed the ransomware attack on its Change Healthcare unit last February affected around 190 million people in America — nearly double previous estimates. "Change Healthcare has determined the estimated total number of individuals impacted by the Change Healthcare cyberattack is approximately 190 million," said Tyler Mason, a spokesperson for UnitedHealth Group in an email to TechCrunch. UnitedHealth's spokesperson said the company was "not aware of any misuse of individuals’ information as a result of this incident and has not seen electronic medical record databases appear in the data during the analysis."
