Snow Village in Montreal closes early, a casualty of warm weather

MONTREAL - The Snow Village complex in Jean Drapeau Park has become a casualty of warm weather, closing earlier than planned.

The 0.6-hectare site — featuring a hotel, restaurant, bar, conference centre and chapel, all made out of ice and snow — was intended to remain open until March 31, but had to close on March 11.

Nevertheless, the group of entrepreneurs that organized the attraction have declared their first season a success, with more than 95,000 visitors since opening day on Jan. 6. The $2.1-million project was partly supported by the Quebec government.

Plans for the second season are already in the works, with a goal to create ice replicas of New York City buildings.
