Southern California braces for another weekend heat wave
Southern California residents are being warned that temperatures are about to take another big jump as we get closer to the weekend.
“A significant heatwave” will begin Friday and continue into next week, the National Weather Service stated in its forecast Thursday. “A large portion of the mountains, foothills and valleys away from the coast will experience dangerously hot conditions.”
Temperatures are expected to increase several degrees each day with highs reaching between 105 and 112 degrees across the lower mountain and far inland areas, including the Antelope Valley, by Sunday.
Temperatures are forecast to climb between 5 and 15 degrees above average as you move away from the coast.
“The only areas we’re not being affected by any type of heat warning or advisory is the coast. You can beat the heat there,” KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said.
Excessive heat warnings and advisories are in place for the majority of mountain, valley and far interior areas from Friday through at least the weekend.
The Weather Service recommends residents know the signs of heat illness and urged people to stay hydrated and avoid hiking in the mountains over the weekend.
