Spartanburg Co. man charged with child sex crimes in NC, SC

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A man is being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center without bond on charges related to the sexual abuse of minors in North and South Carolina.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, in September investigators with the Spartanburg County SVU assisted the Cleveland County N.C. Sheriff’s Office in serving warrants on Ian Mitchell Farnsworth, 62, of Spartanburg.

Farnsworth was wanted in Cleveland County for felony warrants for indecent liberties with a minor.

After his arrest, the sheriff’s office said it determined Farnsworth committed sexual offenses with an additional victim in Spartanburg County.

On September 25, Farnsworth was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in Spartanburg County.

The continued investigation led investigators to an additional minor victim.

While at the Children’s Advocacy Center, the minor victim reportedly disclosed ongoing sexual abuse by Farnsworth within the last year.

On November 7, 2024, Farnsworth was charged with an three additional counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
