Speeding Manhattan scooter rider killed in crash with unlicensed Volvo driver

A 19-year-old man riding a gas-powered scooter was killed in a collision with an unlicensed Volvo driver on the Upper East Side, police said Monday.

The victim sped through a red light as he rode downtown on Second Ave. and was struck by the Volvo, driven by a 36-year-old man heading east on E. 79th St., about 11:50 p.m. Sunday, cops said.

After colliding with the victim, the driver of the Volvo lost control and struck a light pole, cops said.

Medics rushed both men to nearby New-York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell, where the scooter rider died. The older man suffered minor injuries.

The Volvo driver, Shraga Orgad, of Brooklyn, was charged with driving without a license.
