Spotsylvania shooting under investigation after deputy shot, killed man

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A deputy was involved in a shooting in Spotsylvania County early Sunday morning.

At around 3:16 a.m., deputies responded to the 10400 block of Spotswood Dr. for a “domestic disturbance.” There, deputies saw a man pointing a gun at a woman.

A deputy then fired his gun, hitting the man. The 38-year-old man died as a result, according to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office.

The woman was not hurt.

Virginia State Police was helping to investigate the shooting and that deputy was placed on routine administrative leave, the sheriff’s office said.
