Sprinkler system limits damage in Fast Taco fire in Fond du Lac

FOND DU LAC – Fast Taco, 335 Winnebago Drive, suffered minimal water and soot damage after a small kitchen fire was extinguished by a sprinkler system Saturday morning.

Fond du Lac Fire Rescue Department said in a news release July 9 that crews were called to the restaurant at 10:53 a.m. July 6 for a commercial fire alarm and water flow alarm.

When they arrived, crews were alerted that a single fire sprinkler head activated in the kitchen and put out the fire, which occurred on a two-burner cook top.

The fire resulted in minimal water and soot damage to Fast Taco and one adjacent business.

The department said the fire was caused by unattended cooking.

Ahern Fire Protection and Atlas Fire & Security assisted with restoring the fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems.

Business representatives and building owners are working to restore business operations, the department said in the release.
