Stabbing at Dartmouth Mall under investigation. One person in custody, police report.

DARTMOUTH — One person was taken to the hospital and another arrested after an apparent stabbing in the parking lot of the Dartmouth Mall Sunday afternoon.

According to a police press release, at approximately 2:50 p.m., the police responded to the Dartmouth Mall regarding a possible stabbing in the parking lot outside of Five Below.

"Upon arrival, officers located a victim with what appeared to be non-life-threatening stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital and a suspect has been taken into custody. Both involved individuals are reported to be juveniles," according to the press release.

St. Luke's Hospital locked down

Meanwhile, St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford was reported to be in lockdown in the time following the incident.

"St. Luke’s Hospital went into a lockdown earlier today following standard operating procedure while working with local law enforcement in response to an incident," Southcoast Health Manager of Public Communications Kaitlyn Johnson reported via email on Sunday.

Dartmouth Mall 'saddened'

"We are saddened by the incident that occurred in the parking lot of Dartmouth Mall," the Dartmouth Mall said in a written statement, provided via a public relations agency. "The safety of our mall tenants, employees, and customers is of utmost importance and we will continue to cooperate with authorities regarding the incident. We thank the Dartmouth police department for their prompt response and continued support and hope for a speedy recovery for the victim."
