LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow joined local leaders at a school in Lansing today to announce new summer meal options for Michigan kids.

Stabenow visited Waverly East Intermediate School in Lansing to talk to students and staff about child hunger and what methods to use to combat it.

The goal of this new legislation is to expand food opportunities for children in rural communities and provide new resources for children eligible for SNAP benefits or free or reduced-priced meals.

Stabenow says Michigan is leading with access to food for not just kids but for everybody. She says the combination of federal funds, state funds, and her ability to bring in the money for the summer program, is a great collaboration.

For more information on the program and to see if you qualify, call 211 or go to the Michigan Department of Education to sign up for the Meet Up and Eat Up program.
