The drive-thru appears to be a preferred way to enter a business for a burglar who has yet to be identified in Athens.

Athens-Clarke police believe this late-night criminal entered the Burger King on Hawthorne Avenue on July 2 and the Dunkin Donuts on Prince Avenue on July 21.

Police have released a security camera photo on their Facebook page that shows the burglar wearing a sweater jacket with Starland Pizza scripted on the back.

So far that evidence has not led to the man’s identity.

There have been a number of commercial burglaries in Athens this summer. Police spokesman Lt. Jody Thompson said Friday that police are trying to determine if this person might be responsible for some of those as well.

In the latest burglary, the man shattered the glass of the Dunkin Donuts shop with a stone removed from decorative landscaping near the drive thru.

A video shows the man at the location shortly before 11 p.m. The man, who is also carrying a backpack, entered the business and removed a cash drawer and then exited the same way he entered, according to the report.

At the Burger King, police were called to the restaurant shortly after 5 a.m. when an employee found a large rock had been used to shatter the drive-thru window.

A video shows the burglar entering the store at about 2.45 a.m., where he removed a large sum of cash from the safe.

The suspect is described as a slender, black male. Anyone with information on a possible suspect is asked to contact Detective Austin Pilkington at 762-400-7179 or austin.pilkington@accgov.com
