State identifies Kensington man killed in July 22 police standoff

Jul. 26—Police have identified the man shot and killed after an hourslong standoff at a home in Kensington on Monday night.

Anthony J. Previte, 29, of Kensington, died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and chest, the state Attorney General's Office said in a report released Friday evening. An autopsy determined the manner of death was homicide.

Previte died Monday when six officers discharged their firearms and one officer discharged a less-lethal munition on Olivia Lane, the Attorney General's Office said Tuesday.

While following up just after noon Monday on a mental health call from the previous night, a Kensington police officer received information about a man in the home threatening another occupant, the AG's office said in its initial news release.

Officers from the Seacoast Emergency Response Team and later the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit responded.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., during an encounter with the armed man, the officers fired their weapons, the AG's Office said.

Responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene but the man died.

An investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice, with the assistance from the New Hampshire State Police Major Crimes Unit, is ongoing. The identities of the officers who fired their weapons are being withheld, pending formal interviews expected to take place in the next couple weeks, according to the AG's office.
