State marks milestone at dispensary ribbon cutting

Jul. 12—CHAMPAIGN — A local dispensary marks the 100th social equity license issued by the state of Illinois.

The milestone was announced a Friday morning ribbon cutting ceremony for The Dispensary's new store in Champaign, located at 1826 Glenn Park Drive.

"We are very proud to have the honor," said principal officer Jeff Soenksen.

Erin Johnson, Cannabis Regulation Oversight Officer for the state of Illinois, said that the social equity licensing program was created to "repair the harms done by the war on drugs."

"Today marks a joyous occasion on behalf of the Pritzker administration," said Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Secretary Mario Treto, Jr..

Festivities will continue at The Dispensary throughout the day, with refreshments available from Maize's food truck, glass blowing and pop-ups from local cultivators.
