State police arrest CT man accused of driving nearly 120 mph on I-84

A man was charged with reckless driving after state police allege that he was clocked going nearly double the speed limit on Interstate 84 in Tolland on Monday.

A trooper was conducting traffic enforcement on I-84 East in the area of Exit 66 when a driver in a white Toyota Camry was spotted traveling at a high rate of speed in the left lane shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to Connecticut State Police.

The trooper used a laser to clock the vehicle’s speed, which allegedly registered at 118 mph in a 65 mph zone, state police said.

The trooper then caught up to the motorist and pulled over the driver. State police said the driver was identified as 29-year-old Rahnda Charles of Mansfield.

Charles was taken into custody and transported to Troop C in Tolland. He was charged with one count of reckless driving.

State police said the Camry was towed.

Charles was later released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Aug. 28.
