State police believe motorists racing on I-84 led to multi-car, rollover crash

A multi-car, rollover crash on Interstate 84 in Tolland on Monday is believed to have been caused by racing, state police said.

The crash was reported shortly before 10 p.m. on I-84 East between Exits 68 and 69 where responding troopers found an “extensive debris field,” according to Connecticut State Police.

One of the vehicles involved rolled over during the crash, state police said.

No injuries were reported.

Troopers believe the crash was preceded by several vehicles “driving recklessly” and “slow rolling the highway before racing,” state police said.

State police said they are seeking witnesses who may have seen the four vehicles and what they were doing prior to the crash. Three of the vehicles were involved in the collision, according to state police.

They included a 2010 Honda Civic LX being driven by a Manchester man; a 2007 Honda Accord with a driver and a passenger inside, both of Manchester; and a 2012 Nissan Altima being driven by an East Hartford man.
