State police investigate after driver strikes car, garage in Parsonsfield
Jul. 6—A Parsonsfield man has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash early Thursday morning after he allegedly drove a pickup truck into a garage off Route 160, then abandoned the damaged vehicle and an aluminum boat in the road.
Joshua Hermance, 23, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet pickup on Route 160 (North Road) in Parsonsfield when he allegedly missed a turn, left the road, and crashed into a parked vehicle and a garage at a residence, according to Maine state Troopers Travis Doughty and Nate Jamo.
He then backed up and returned to North Road, leaving a trail of debris in his wake, including a 12-foot-long aluminum boat that had been in the bed of the truck, the investigating officers determined.
As Hermance continued driving, the front driver's side tire shredded until it was completely separated from the rim, the troopers found.
"It was at this time that the operator abandoned his pickup and fled the scene," said Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Troopers identified the driver as Hermance, who is cooperating with the investigation, Moss said in a statement.
Hermance is charged with several violations related to the crash, including failing to notify the homeowner of damage to the car and the garage and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
Neither Hermance nor the homeowner was injured, Moss said.
