Student doctor, accused of having sexual pictures of minors, to stay in custody

BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — A student doctor accused of child exploitation will be locked up until trial.

Investigators claimed Kevin Weiss had 46 pictures in his apartment that showed young girls in various sexual positions, including that he allegedly manufactured himself.

Albuquerque detectives first learned about the case through tips sent to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Prosecutors said he should remain in custody until trial, saying it would be hard to monitor his activity online. However, his defense argued he does not have a criminal history, and there is no indication of overt violence in the case.

“I have to find that this weighs toward a finding of danger,” said Second Judicial District Court Judge Joseph Montaño, noting this wasn’t just possession but ‘manufacturing’ of the explicit material.

Judge Montaño sided with the State. Court records stated Weiss was a student doctor at the Burnell College of Osteopathic Medicine.
