Suit alleges Cedars-Sinai covered up OB/GYN’s ‘serial sexual exploitation’

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is facing accusations of a “generations-long history of covering up” for an OB/GYN being sued by more than 30 former patients in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The lawsuit claims that Dr. Barry J. Brock, an obstetrician and gynecologist for more than 40 years, was practicing medicine at Cedars-Sinai and other high-profile medical institutions in Beverly Hills where he was accused of sexual assault, battery and harassment, a news release from the law firms Arias Sanguinetti and The DiPietro Law Firm stated.

Reportedly labeled “Brock the butcher” by medical staff for insisting on traumatic procedures, the doctor, according to the release, is accused of:

  • Grooming his patients

  • Asking inappropriate questions and making overly sexual comments

  • Inappropriate touching and performing unnecessary serial pap smears

  • Acts of gender violence, including female genital mutilation

  • Unwanted digital penetration of patients

  • Performing unnecessary breast exams

Other medical centers named in the lawsuit include Beverly Hills OB/GYN and Rodeo Drive’s Women’s Health Center.

Lawyers added that the complaint names Cedars-Sinai for its history of covering up Brock’s “serial sexual exploitation.”

In a statement to KTLA, a Cedars-Sinai spokesperson said:

“The type of behavior alleged about Dr. Barry Brock is counter to Cedars-Sinai’s core values and the trust we strive to earn every day with our patients. Dr. Brock no longer has privileges to practice medicine at Cedars-Sinai, and we have reported this matter to the California Medical Board. We recognize the legal process must now take its course, and we remain committed to Cedars-Sinai’s sacred healing mission and serving our community. “

No information was provided on the amount of damages lawyers are seeking in the suits against Brock and the three medical institutions.
